This range represents the final iteration of the army of the first military superpower of the ancient world, the later Neo-Assyrians, from the beginning of the reign of Ashurbanipal (the only Neo-Assyrian king who could read) until the Mede/Babylonian conspiracy ended the mighty empire forever. It includes the empire from its greatest territorial extent -- featuring the destruction of the Elamites at the Ulai River and the defeat of the Egyptians, through the massive civil wars that followed Ashurbanipal's death and weakened the empire so that foes (old and new) could bring it down.
